Arial, Verdana, Trebuched, Georgia, Lucida are a part of some popular and frequently used typefaces for webpages. In the past years web designers had a their disposition only a restricted set of fonts for web sites. With the introduction of CSS 3 @font-face property things are changing and we can start using any font we want. But in the meantime, which is your favorite font for the web among “old” typefaces? Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, Georgia, Lucida, Times, Trebuched?

I usually use Trebuchet for headings but recently I fell in love with using purely Georgia after seeing Extreme Georgia typographical layout being featured on Smashing Magazine.
I think one of the very good examples of the usage of Arial/Helvetica will be Abduzeedo. Gotta love the huge arial headings!

I prefer using “Arial” and “Gerogia”. “Georgia” to display heading title of post and “Arial” to display article contents.

Same as “Kardeno”, Georgia for title/headings & Arial for body text.

Hi, I use every font depending on the seriousness of the project, but prefer, Georgia and Lucida.

I like Helvetica for the paragraphs (but depends on the site overall feeling). I normally use non websafe fonts (at the moment I enjoy using Cufon.js very much!) for the heading.

I recently discovered the wonderful Lucia Sans italic, so it has become my number one choice recently. When I started doing web design, Verdana was always my choice for content. I use Georgia a lot because it works well for headings AND content.

Helvetica, of course! I also like to use Arial, Verdana, Georgia, and occasionally Trebuchet for headings.

font-family: “Lucida Grande”, “Lucida Sans Unicode”, “Calibri”, “Trebuchet MS”, verdana, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;

I like Arial, Tahoma, Segoe UI and Lucida Grande.

I really like Verdana, I feel is a very clear and shaped font for small sizes, which I consider it’s best features. I don’t see the reason to use Arial, if you have Helvetica.
Considering the serif fonts, Georgia is one of my favorites. Although I have used Palatino Linotype quite a lot.
I recently felt in love with Existence Light and Miso, sans serifs and very well created.

Arial, Trebuched

Georgia, Lucida Sans, Trebuchet MS

Helvetica doesn’t render too well on PC’s (at least when its font weight is bold). I like tahoma – it’s in between arial and verdana as far as weight/space goes and you can easily distinguish lowercase l’s from uppercase i’s.

@font-face is great, but it only works on IE6+, Safari 4+, Firefox 3.5+ and Opera (i think 9+) what do you people use on older firefox, older safari and on chrome as a fall back technique ? On my side, I setup a SIFR, see it live @ http://www.demontigny.acolyte.ws/
