We all know Street View, the Google service that provides 360° panoramic views for many streets in the world. Immersive Media is working on an evolution of Street View that provides 360°, full motion, interactive video experience. Potential applications of this revolutionary technology are many (games, documentaries, military training) and, without doubt, will change dramatically the way to interact and explore 360° worlds end environments. Here are some awesome demonstrations of ImmersiveMedia technology.

I bought a Ladybug 2 camera in summer 2008 and started playing around with this techniques. A big problem is the bad quality of the image. This is due to the cameras small sensors but more to the fact that you need to stream a much bigger video size than we are used to. For a decent video you will at least need 1024×512 by 15 frames. More frames/sec is a real performance killer.

There still a long way to go until it will be more than an expensive toy ;).

Here are two links of videos wie played around with.

Immersive did also some shots, where they mounted the cam on the bottom of a helicopter and then flying around. That look pretty cool.
