A huge asset to all businesses currently using or undergoing the social media transition on Twitter will now have the option of broadcasting and targeting national tweets. Twitter unvailed on 27/01/2010 that you can now target certain trending topics to your country thus filtering out any unwanted information from other countries.
As you will have noticed with the trending topics, when something of a national scale happens in for example america or china. Your trending topics were sometimes unusual or in a completely different language. Slowly over the past week, as more people have made the move from global trending topics to national trending topics. The filtering as become more apparent and we have seen less and less of trending topics from individual nations.

For small businesses this is an excellent opourtunity to find out in real time what is popular in your city. If you can target the right people and generate interest at the right time, people will retweet your information to friends/followers and could really trigger something big for you.
