How to Create a Free Business Listing on CitySearch (5 Easy Steps)

Free Business Listing on CitySearch

If you are trying to figure out how to submit your business with a free listing on CitySearch then follow the instructions below. They kind of hide their whole process, but it is fairly easy. CitySearch is run by CityGrid, which in turn pulls data from ExpressUpdate.

Step 1

First go to ExpressUpdate and lookup your business.

find business

Most likely it won’t exist and so you can click on “Add it now.”

Note: ExpressUpdate calls you to verify the listing. Therefore if you have a queue in place that can’t be called and you find that your listing already exists in the ExpressUpdate database, then I recommend still clicking on the “Add it now.” Their support is horrible and this is a much faster way to verify/update it as you will see later.

Step 2

Fill out your information for the business. And then in the bottom portion, put a phone number that you can be reached on. The bottom phone number is the one that their computer will call to verify the listing.

Step 3

After you submit your business information it will prompt you to create an account, fill in your name, email address, and password.

Step 4

Then on the next page, click the “Yes, Call Me Now” button, pickup your phone and input the 4 digit code they give you. (I have tried emailing them for things and it doesn’t work, that is why I recommended above, if you are simply trying to update your business, go through the creation process all over again)

Step 5

After putting in your code you will see a successful confirmation and you should then show up on CitySearch within the next couple weeks.

  2. I’m mid set up, step 3 and I’m directed to the page (image attached). I’ve tried to submit email & password but it produces the error at the top of the page. If I click on homepage link I’m back to step 1. I haven’t received a phone call yet. Am I missing something (other than the phone call?)

  3. Really wish that you could verify from a different number. Got some clients who are 45 minutes from me and it can be a pain sometimes to drive over there or get them to text/email me the code immediately. Cuz sometimes the employees think its a sales call and immediately hang up!!

    • Haha agree Jason. Some of these verification processes definitely don’t have companies that work with clients in mind.

  4. Thank you so much! So helpful! Not sure if you will see this, but do I have to claim my business after I completed all of the steps above?

    Thank you,

  5. Hey, thanks for the post. So does express update send your info to some listings for free, and then you have to pay for others? I noticed I dont have a white pages listing, and when I click fix now (on express update) they ask me to become a premium member for $29/mo.

  6. Express update will not allow you to use Toll-Free numbers. I tried last week and they said they only accept local phone numbers and there is no way around it.

  7. I tried but since no one is answering our phone number in New York, the registration doesn’t go through. I sent them an email though asking on how we could proceed the process. Still waiting for their reply. Anyway, Thanks for this guide, very helpful.

  8. Frustrating that their claiming page has these instructions: “Is this number wrong or are you unable to be called at this number? Email Us”. Then when you email them, you get this response: “All records must be verified with the number on the record. You must be at the location when claiming also. This is the way the site works and is our company policy.”

  9. Hi Brian, this worked great! It is really hard to update all the addresses and the yext service does not appear to be the answer.

  10. I tried to do this several times this weekend and today and I do not get the green submitted section box nor any communication or email verification and their email us link under the phone number does not even open a new screen – is expressupdate broken? Or do I need to try again in a different browser?

  11. The recording says “verified,” but it doesn’t advance to the next screen. Did the information get submitted, or is this no longer working?
