How To Disable Comments in a WordPress Page or Post

Comments can be disabled on any page or post when it is being edited. This can be done by clicking on screen options at the top right of your screen when editing a page or post, and ticking the discussion box if it is not enabled already.

Once enabled, you can scroll down to the discussion panel under the text editor and untick the allow comments box.

Disabling Comments on Multiple WordPress Posts or Pages

  1. Click on Posts in the admin sidebar and under posts, select All Posts. For Pages, click on Pages > All Pages.
  2. Tick the posts you would like to disable comments for.
  3. Select Edit from the Bulk Actions at the top of the screen and click the Apply button.
  4. Under Comments, select Do not allow and Click the Update button.

Disable WordPress Comments by Default

You can also disable comments totally on all future posts. Go to Settings > Discussion and untick “Allow people to post comments on new articles”.

Closing Comments in WordPress

It is also possible to disable comments automatically after a certain number of days, go to Settings > Discussion, enable automatically close comments on articles older than # days and select the number of days you desire.

How To Disable WordPress Comments Completely

You can also disable WordPress comments globally, on posts and pages by simply using a plugin. An example of such a plugin is Disable Comments.

Once the plugin is installed and activated, go to Settings > Disable Comments

If you want to disable comments completely, tick everywhere and save changes. You can also deactivate comments on all posts or pages or media by selecting the On Certain post types and selecting your desired options.

  1. Hi! Tempera is a great theme, thanks a lot! However, I have a small problem and I don’t understand if it’s theme related or not. How can I change the text “Leave a Reply” above comment form? There should be an option in the Settings section, but it isn’t or I cannot find it. and Also, I need to change the text on a “Post Comment” button… Thanks a lot for your answer and best wishes!
