    Going for unusual designs is a powerful statement that not all types of companies and businesses can make on the web. The unusually beautiful creations hallmark bold brands with bold identities and it’s mostly inspired by the team behind the brand.

    I’ve seen unusual layouts work well with occasional marketing campaigns that are meant to dazzle and entertain and that’s when they are most effective. Again, it depends on the personality and the message of the brand. In any case, unconventional designs is not something you can have a lot of fun with – the effects can be quite the opposite.

    Some very nice designs on that list but some are certainly more style over substance. Good web design shouldn’t be limited to the aesthetic appeal – a good design can compensate for limited visual appeal but gloss and glitter will never make an unusable, bad, website good!

    Having said that, it must be nice to have such artisitc freedom!

    @Saz Well said. Style over substance is what most people go for. Very few people on Spaceship E are interesting, creative, or both. Experience, depth and love are the only lasting things. All else is shiny gold in a tomb.

    The cliche “less is more” is also applicable in web design. Most of the time, SIMPLE and CLEAN designs are the prevailing ones. I love the simplicity and cleanliness of ISurfBecause and Wishbone Design.
