Optimus Image Optimizer

Not familiar with Optimus? I will keep this brief, but it is a WordPress plugin developed and maintained by KeyCDN for the sole purpose of providing automatic lossless compression for your WordPress media library. And in lamens terms, it compresses your images (makes them smaller) without any quality loss. This allows your site to download faster when people visit it.

Testimonials from Readers of this Blog

A couple readers of this blog have already expressed to me how much the plugin has helped them on their WordPress sites.

Nicholas Scalice, who I had the pleasure of participating in his inbound podcast over at Earnworthy, saw a huge difference on his site.

My good friend Chris Grande, was able to cut his page load times by 25-40% simply by compressing his images.

My Results with Optimus

I was also very impressed with the compression results from Optimus. As a blogger I don’t work with a lot of original photographs, what I am optimizing are images for my blogs in Adobe Photoshop. This means I won’t see as big of compression results like those say of a professional photographer uploading photos. But I pulled a list of 50 images and my average compression ratio was 39%. Which is impressive! And remember, this plugin automates the compression when you upload, or use the bulk optimization feature, so there is no extra work involved, only results!

  1. It’s amazing how all of your recommendations added up (including this plug in Optimus) to give me page load speeds that someone with a dedicated host would get. You tested my site out too. My page load speeds were great. And for tests from my local region, they were nearly supersonic (I am in Boston and test pings from NYC were ridiculously fast). Thanks again for all of the advice!

  2. Brian — I’m glad we connected, as you’ve helped me tremendously with web performance. I’m still absolutely in love with KeyCDN.

I’d love to give the Optimus Image Optimizer plugin a whirl because I’m confident it would save me time over manually optimizing my images with ImageOptim (which is what I’m currently doing).

Keep the #webperf tips coming :-)

    • Hey Dave, thanks for that. I’m glad you found some of my posts and content useful. I am happy you are liking KeyCDN. I do too :) Although I might be a little biased *cough *cough. But speed + features don’t lie!

Good luck on your entry. I just linked someone a couple days ago to an older bootstrap theme list, gonna have to update it to yours. Good to see a 2016 one.

  3. My first response was going to be that my main reason is that you think it’s a good idea, and I know you know what you’re talking about. :) But also, I do want my pages to load faster, and maybe this would help. :)

  4. Images are a major part of my niche sites which takes highest load times. So, Optimus is definitely going to speed things up, isn’t it? Hope I win this ;)

  5. Always looking for ways to speedup my client’s WordPress websites. Recognizing that images account for more than 60% of a website’s total bandwidth, Optimus Image Optimizer could really be a game changer in terms of ensuring faster loading websites.
